At the end, the large audience went literally mad... An incredible conductor, just 22 years old, that we hope will be secured as Principal Guest Conductor of the Comunale Orchestra before another theatre discovers his great talent.
Il Resto del Carlino (January 2011)
Finale was striking in the unleashing of undreamed-of energy. Many only scratch the surface with excessive tempo, but here there was real depth.
Sächsische Zeitung (26th August 2011)
The remarkable young conductor Aziz Shokhakimov burst on the scene at the age of just 21 by astounding audiences in Bamberg, where he was awarded second prize at the Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition under the auspices of the Bamberger Symphoniker. He has since accepted invitations to conduct at distinguished international venues.
During 2011 Aziz Shokhakimov made several triumphant debuts: In Germany with the Staatskapelle Dresden; in Italy with the Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and in Poland with the highly acclaimed Sinfonia Varsovia. Engagements in 2012 will include performances with La Verdi Orchestra Milan, I Musici de Montréal, and Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, as well as a North American debut with the Oregon Symphony.
Recognition came very early for Shokhakimov. At the age of 17, in 2005, he was invited to participate in a training program at the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, under the direction of Maestro Vladimir Spivakov, which resulted in an invitation to conduct the orchestra in a 2010 subscription concert. Aziz Shokhakimov is a recipient of the Vladimir Spivakov International Charitable Foundation.
Born in 1988 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Aziz Shokhakimov entered Uspensky Music School for Gifted Children at the age of 6, where he studied violin, viola and orchestral conducting (class of professor Vladimir Neymer).
At the age of 13 he made his debut with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, conducting Beethoven's 5th Symphony and the Lizst’ Piano Concerto no. 1. During the following year Aziz was invited to conduct his first opera, Carmen, at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Uzbekistan. His relationship with both organizations resulted in numerous invitations to perform symphonies by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler, Prokofiev and Shostakovich – as well as operas by Verdi and Bizet among others. Starting in 2006 Aziz Shokhakimov assumed the position of Principal Conductor at the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, a position which he continues to hold.
