Standing ovations for Mariss JANSONS at the New Year's Concert 2012

Mariss JANSONS conducted the traditional New Year's Concert 2012 of the Vienna Philharmonic in what turned out to be an exhilarating performance, highly acclaimed by the audience and press alike.

The programme comprised compositions of the Strauss dynasty as well as their contemporaries Ziehrer, Hellmesberger and Lumbye. For the very first time at a New Year's Concert Peter I. Tchaikovsky was also featured with two pieces taken from the ballet Sleeping Beauty.

The concert was broadcast into 73 countries and viewed by more than 50 million people on New Years's Day. It was the second time that the Latvian Mariss JANSONS was invited to conduct this special concert by the Vienna Philharmonic.
