Big success for Kristiina POSKA at Malko-Competition

Out of more than 400 applications only 40 candidates were invited to Copenhagen to participate in the 2012 edition of the renowned Malko-Competition for Young Conductors. Among them was 33-year-old Kristiina POSKA from Estonia. In all four competition rounds she so impressed the high calibre international jury headed by Lorin Maazel that she then also went through to the final round.

At the final concert last Saturday with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra Kristiina POSKA delivered a stunning interpretation of the prelude to the 2nd act of Carl Nielsen’s »Saul and David« as well as the first movement of Tschaikowsky’s »Pathetique« for which she was awarded the 3rd prize. Her conducting not only impressed the jury but also the viewers and audience of the concert that was broadcast live. By text-message they clearly voted for the young Estonian as winner of the competition and awarded her the audience prize.

Starting with the 2012/13 season Kristiina Poska will be Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper Berlin. There she will already be conducting further performances of the highly successful production of the »Seven deadly sins«.
