Axel Kober – Double Tannhäuser in Vienna and Berlin
Before Tannhäuser is after Tannhäuser: Following the final performance of the current Tannhäuser series at the Vienna State Opera on September 24, 2025, Axel Kober will begin a Tannhäuser series at the Deutsche Oper Berlin on September 28, 2025. His reputation as an outstanding conductor in this repertoire has preceded him not only since his presence in Bayreuth, but also through different versions (mixed version in Vienna, Dresden version in Berlin), productions (Lydia Steier in Vienna, Kirsten Harms in Berlin), orchestras, choirs, and casts (Clay Hilley/Klaus Florian Vogt, Georg Zeppenfeld/Christof Fischesser, Martin Gantner/Thomas Lehman, Ekaterina Gubanova/Camilla Nylund) make for an exciting comparison. Only Elisabeth is played by Camilla Nylund (who also sings Venus in Berlin) in both productions.
