Jonathan Bloxham new Music Director at Luzerner Theater

Jonathan Bloxham was today announced as the next Music Director of the Luzerner Theater starting in the 23/24 season, when he will lead new productions of La Bohème, Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Dido and Aeneas – the latter premiering in coproduction with the Lucerne Festival. He had his successful debut in Lucerne last year with Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle. Intendant Ina Karr and Opera Director Dr. Ursula Benzing are very much looking forward to the collaboration.

Bloxham has previously conducted Verdi’s Luisa Miller at Glyndebourne (Summer 2021), as well as Rigoletto and Don Pasquale with Glyndebourne Touring Opera. His duties in Lucerne will complement his position (since September 2022) as Artistic Advisor and Conductor in Residence of the London Mozart Players.

He is already well established as a symphonic guest conductor, returning to the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Residentie Orkest and Belgian National Orchestra, among many others, and debuting with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
