Antoine Tamestit receives the Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau

The French violist received the Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau on 20 November 2022. Mayor Claus Kaminsky presented the award, which has been presented in cooperation with the Hindemith Foundation since 2006.

“He is known for his unsurpassed technique and the much-lauded beauty of his colorful viola tone. Antoine Tamestit has studied Paul Hindemith particularly intensively, whose compositions for viola he has not only regularly integrated into his concert programs, but also presented in highly acclaimed recordings,” according to the jury.

The violist, composer and conductor Paul Hindemith was born in Hanau on 16 November 1895.
