The Berliner Philharmoniker and its Chief Conductor Kirill Petrenko today announced their recording »Rachmaninoff 150«, featuring his Piano Concerto No. 2 in c-minor Op. 18 with Kirill Gerstein as soloist, to mark the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s birth. The impressive recording was made on 25 June 2022 at the orchestra’s traditional season finale at Berlin’s Waldbühne. The tribute to Sergei Rachmaninoff is complemented by works for solo piano, including his Variations on a Theme by Corelli Op. 42 and his arrangement of Fritz Kreisler's Liebesleid, also performed by Kirill Gerstein and recorded in the Großer Saal of the Berlin Philharmonie.
The album is available immediately on Apple Music Classical, and will be released on all other streaming platforms and on CD on 23 June 2023.
